Día de Muertos 2022 Arrives to Pokémon GO
For this event, Pokémon GO shared a story detailing the importance of this holiday:
In an ancient Aztec tradition, it was said that the spirits of our loved ones never go away but simply travel to a different world, and during a special time each year, they would return to our world. Ever since, people that celebrate Día de Muertos get ready for this occasion, setting the table with the favorite dishes of their ancestors, covering the streets with petals of the cempasúchil flower, and lighting candles and incense to enjoy a joyful celebration full of colors, music, flowers, and flavors.
During this event, Duskull wearing a cempasúchil crown will spawn more frequently. Trainers may even encounter a shiny. Additionally, Duskull will be able to evolve while still wearing the cempasúchil crown.
Bonuses for this event include:
- Lure Modules lasting 90 if activated during the event
- Incense activated during the event will last 90 minutes (excludes Daily Adventure Incense)
- 2x Catch Candy
Along with the additional bonuses, a Collection Challenge is also arriving to this event. Right now, no current information concerning this Challenge is available.

Rare spawn encounters inckude: Duskull wearing a cempasúchil crown*, Drifloon* and Yamask*.
It is worth noting that trainers in Latin American and the Caribbean will get exclusive featured Pokémon during this event.
Incense and Lure Spawns include: Cubone*, Sunkern*, Sunflora*, Roselia*, Drifloon*, Yamask* and Swirlix*.
Rare Incense and Lure spawns include: Houndoom* and Duskull wearing a cempasúchil crown*.
Latin America and the Caribbean will also see featured Incense and Lure spawns.
For this event, Raids include:
- One-Star: Duskull wearing a cempasúchil crown*
- Three-Star Raids: Dragonite, Sableye* and Druddigon*
- Five-Star Raids: Origin Forme Giratina*
- Mega Raids: Mega Banette*
Additionally, exclusive avatar items for Día de Muertos will also be available in the in-game shop. Trainers will also be able to purchase these items after the end of the event.
While this event does seem like an extension of the recent Festival of Light event, the new Duskull is sure to keep shiny hunters busy. Plus, the addition of Swirlix is a nice touch for those that didn’t catch it during Pokémon GO Fest.
Of course, Latin America and the Caribbean getting more featured Pokémon makes sense given the nature of the event, however, this seems mainly like an event to grind for the shiny costumed-Duskull.
